Our Interpretive Programs in Yosemite National Park

Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts at Yosemite’s Interpretive Services Department has been conducting interpretive programs in the park since 1999.  As Interpretive Naturalists, we share the natural and cultural stories of the park through an array of interpretive evening programs, walks, talks, family programs, and more.  Our staff brings experience, passion, and knowledge of Yosemite to thousands of guests per year.  We look forward to sharing our love for the park with you!

The opportunities to discover the stories of Yosemite are endless and entice Yosemite visitors of all ages. Just a few of the many Yosemite interpretive programs available to our guests include:

Daytime Programs
Art Classes – The Yosemite Conservancy offers art classes through our Art Activities Center. Learn to paint or draw and take home a special and unique memento of your visit to Yosemite.

Crane Flat Snowshoe Walks – Experience forest habitat and a beautiful vista of the Clark Range as you travel by snowshoe. Available January through March, conditions permitting. 3 hrs $

Great Yosemite Family Adventure – Explore Yosemite Valley with the family on a guided treasure hunt with GPS units. Available June through September, conditions permitting. 2.5 hrs $

Lower Yosemite Fall Family Activities – Discover the story of North America’s tallest waterfall on the Lower Yosemite Fall trail with informal learning activities in English and Spanish. Available June through August. 1 hr

Historic Ahwahnee Tours – Travel back in time as you explore The Ahwahnee hotel’s magnificent halls, great rooms and grounds to uncover its past and meanings. Available year-round. 1 hr * Reservations must be made with The Ahwahnee Concierge Desk - (209) 372-1426

Naturalist Strolls – Enjoy a scenic and enlightening Yosemite walk near The Ahwahnee hotel. Topics vary. Available year-round, conditions permitting. 1 hr

Photography and Camera Walks – See Yosemite through the lens with staff photographers from The Ansel Adams Gallery. Digital and traditional formats welcome. Topics, departure sites, and times vary. Available year-round, conditions permitting. 1–4 hrs * Reservations must be made with The Ansel Adams Gallery – (209) 372-4413

Ranger Ned's Big Adventure – Experience a fun, interactive and educational children’s play by The Traveling Lantern Theatre Company at the Curry Village Amphitheater. Offered twice daily five times per week. Available May through September. 1 hr

Ranger Walks and Talks – In Yosemite, nature abounds. Explore Yosemite's breathtaking landscape during a National Park Service Ranger-led walk or talk.

Wee Wild Ones – Youngsters six and under will delight in fun stories, songs, games, crafts and activities. Topics and locations vary by season. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Available year-round. 45 mins


Evening Programs
Evening Presentations – Delve into a wide range of topics with a DNC interpretive naturalist at Curry Village and Yosemite Lodge at the Falls. Available year-round. 1 hr

Fireside Storytelling – A blazing fire, good stories and a gorgeous setting lend themselves to this evening program at The Ahwahnee hotel. Available intermittently in the cooler months, and some winter holidays. 1 hr

Full Moon Bike Rides – Marvel at the moon on a leisurely guided bike ride. Bike lights provided. Available June through August near or on full moon nights, conditions permitting. 2 hrs $

Full Moon Snowshoe Walks – Snowshoe through the majestic forest of the Badger Pass Ski Area in a moonlit winter wonderland. Available January through March near or on full moon nights, conditions permitting. 2 hrs $

Glacier Point Stargazing Tour (bus tour) – Join a DNC interpretive naturalist on a bus tour to Glacier Point where you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views and an astronomy program under the stars. Available June through September, conditions permitting. 4 hrs $

Halloween Cemetery Tour – Explore Yosemite’s cemetery with a DNC P&R at Yosemite Interpretive naturalist. Discover the graves and historical stories of important Yosemite pioneers. 1.5 hrs

Moonlight Tour (bus tour) – If you thought Yosemite by daylight was inspiring, see the Valley in an entirely new and magical light during the Moonlight Tour. Following the same route as the Valley Floor Tour, participants ride in an open-air “green dragon” tram under the glow of a full moon.

Night Prowl – Explore Yosemite under the night sky on this guided nocturnal adventure. Available year-round, conditions permitting. 1-1.5 hrs $

Starry Skies over Yosemite / Wawona – Take a cosmic journey as you relax beneath the stars in Yosemite Valley or the Wawona Hotel. Available year-round, conditions permitting. 1-1.5 hrs $

Wawona Parlor Tunes – Enjoy vintage songs and stories of Yosemite with pianist/singer Tom Bopp most evenings in the Wawona Hotel Parlor. Available April through December. 4 hrs


Programs for Families

Children's Storybook Hour – Bring your children to hear stories about animals, plants, and people of Yosemite. Geared toward children 7 and under, story time offers your youngsters an enjoyable glimpse at Yosemite’s wonders. 1 hr

History of Bracebridge Talks – Occurring nearly every Christmas season since The Ahwahnee opened in 1927, this world-famous pageant is rich with history and tradition. Through our History of Bracebridge Talks, you can catch a glimpse into the past and peek behind the scenes of this magical theatrical production.

Details & Reservations
Cost – Interpretive programs with the $ symbol require a minimal fee and advanced registration for participation. Tickets cannot be purchased at time of program. All other programs are free.
