Anderson’s culinary calling began in Swarthmore, Penn., where his first job was in a popular cheese steak and hoagie shop.  Discovering his love for cooking, he worked during his high school years as an unpaid apprentice in a fine French restaurant in a nearby town.  Anderson graduated from Davis and Elkins University in West Virginia in 1981 and from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. in 1983.

His career has taken him to the mountains of North Carolina, the greens of Hilton Head, the fast paces of Philadelphia, the beauty of Yosemite National Park, the unique setting of the Sierra Gold Country, and now to The Boulder Ridge golf club in the Almaden Valley hills near San Jose. 

Prior to his move to The Gold Country, the highly respected Anderson and his family lived in Yosemite, where he worked in all aspects of food service before becoming Executive Chef of the Ahwahnee Hotel in 1991.  He has been featured in numerous magazines including Gourmet, Saveaur and Bon Appetit, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Fresno Bee, The Oakland Tribune, The San Jose Mercury News as well as several cookbooks, such as Inns of the West, Menus and Music Holiday Edition.  His television appearances include CBS This Morning, Bay Area Back roads, PBS Inns of the West, California’s Heartland, Full Bloom and Bay Café with Joey Altman.  Anderson has also appeared on numerous radio shows in the San Francisco market as well as nationally on “all things considered” a national syndicated public radio program.  Anderson has had the distinction of preparing dinner for First Lady Laura Bush and four of her friends.  Chef Anderson has also prepared meals for numerous celebrities, Secretaries of the Interior, foreigners and the VIP’s that visited Yosemite every day

Chefbob is also a fixture with OARS a wilderness rating company headquartered in Angels Camp Ca.  He has been featured in their catalogue and numerous outdoor adventure publications as the wilderness gourmet where he, his bride Mary and son James cook and serve white tablecloth restaurant dining on the shores of the Rogue, Tuolumne and American rivers.  “The whitewater is unbelievable so we have to make the food even more inspired and satisfying, it’s vintner dinners interrupted by some incredible whitewater rafting”..

The golf club at Boulder ridge is located high above the Santa Clara Valley in San Jose California, offering dramatic views of the entire Silicon Valley and the Santa Cruz mountain range.  The unique character of the golf course comes from prehistoric boulders where Ohlone Indians lived and played centuries ago and later where settlers quarried stone to build Stanford University and the original San Jose post office.  Boulder ridge is a private golf club that takes pride in everything they offer to their members.  The stunning clubhouse is reminiscent of the arts and crafts style with magnificent interiors, our members’ home away from home.  Chefbob puts the final touch to tremendous location…cuisine exceeding expectations, seamless service and a smile….
