Yosemite High Sierra Camps How to Apply

Below are instructions for how the lottery works for Yosemite's High Sierra Camps.  While successfully 'winning' the lottery is the best way to get the dates you want at the camps you want with the people you want to travel with, it is not the only way to get to our high camps.  Once the lottery process is complete, all remaining reservations are available on a first come, first serve basis.  Current availability is updated regularly during the season.  Call (801) 559-4909 from May through September to make reservations.

Lottery Guidelines

The 2008 Lottery is now closed. Check back April 1st for remaining spaces.

Opening and closing dates are tentative and may be changed due to weather and other unpredictable conditions.  Awarded lottery space is subject to the facility or services being open for the time reserved.

  1. The deadline to request an application form was November 20, 2007.  We are no longer accepting any requests for applications.  If you missed this deadline, but would still like to stay at the High Sierra Camps, call us back after April 1st to see if there are any cancellations.  If you already have an application, remember that the deadline to submit these is December 7, 2007.
    • Applications will only be accepted on the official Yosemite High Sierra Camp Lottery Application Form.  They must be received by the Yosemite Reservations Office no later than December 7, 2007. (The address will be on the application form.)
    • A maximum of eight spaces (six for meals-only) may be requested on one application form.
    • Please do not send payment until requested.
    • Applicants will be notified by February 28 as to their standing in the lottery.
    • You will receive notification once we receive your lottery application.  Please DO NOT CALL or email to check on the status after that. Due to the volume of applications received, we ask that applicants wait until the lottery is complete to make any inquiries.
    • Any canceled space will be filled by a second round lottery using applications which were not awarded during the first round. Any available space not awarded during the first two rounds will be filled by phone inquiries on a first come first served basis beginning April 1st.
    • All reservations must be paid in full within 30 days of lottery award.

    After The Lottery

    Once the lottery has been completed, generally on or about April 1st, any spaces left are available on a first come, first serve basis.   Open spaces are listed on the Availability page located in this section of the web site and are updated weekly during the season (the page is not 'live' until the lottery process is complete.  These reservations can only be made by calling (801) 559-4909.

    Additional Options

    If you are unable to secure the dates you are interested in during the lottery process, consider a back country trip guided by one of our own  Yosemite Mountaineering School guides.
